Character Bookmarks and second thoughts on content

One of the sticking points for me in Roguish is discerning my own home game from a core set of rules for anyone's use.  I am confusing my home setting of Tyrsis and its setting assumptions  with Roguish and its rules construction.  I have found a problem in including an assumed setting in your rules set.  If someone does not care for your setting then it shades their perception and increases their probable dislike of the rules themselves.

For example, in Tyrsis there are no Halflings, yet when introducing someone to Roguish they often ask-where are the Halflings? Why are there two kinds of elves, two kinds of dwarfs but no Halflings?  Then with magic by race I have found when people choose to be a wizard they want to sit and study the spell lists for the different races to see which "fits" them better.  This slows creation and game play too much for new players.

As my goal with Roguish is to create and easy pick up and play FRPG, the Tyrsis tainted material is getting excised.  While I hate to see my home setting stuff get the boot out of Roguish, I think offering it as a separate and optional setting book will not only streamline the rules book, but can also serve as a primer on how to make Roguish your "own" game.

Below is an image of the Roguish Playtest character sheets.  Yup they are BOOKMARK sized!  It is definitely NOT intimidating to somebody new when you hand them a bookmark and say "let's make a character and play!" Most of the time the instantly smile and say cool!  They are not too hardy due to their thin nature to stand up to a lot of erasing, but they are fun, portable, and serve a secondary purpose as a useful take away from a game session.
